A patient was brought down to the entrance and was told by the patient care staff that he would be waiting on a cab which could take one to three hours. The patient ambassador was concerned about the patient; specifically, if he could or should have some food or water while waiting that long to be picked up. I passed this information to the department assistant who contacted Enedina Patch, nurse manager of Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care. Enedina was very eager to help out and dedicated her time to assist the patient who had no local family support. Enedina was visiting with the patient when the cab arrived, however it was not on the cab's detail sheet to take the patient to pick up oxygen and then deliver the patient to his home. While Enedina was discussing the situation with the manager of the cab company the cab driver left for his next fare. Enedina stayed with the patient in the North Tower waiting on another cab to arrive. During that 45 minutes she visited with the patient and made him feel like he mattered. When the cab arrived she situated the patient in the cab and then asked if she could say a prayer with him. She and the patient prayed and when Enedina looked up she saw the driver had bowed her head and prayed with them.
