My grandmother was a recent patient at Lancaster General Hospital. She underwent a G-tube placement. She received excellent care by her post-op RN, Dorene Moore, and I wanted to share how pleased our family is with her care.
My grandmother was a patient undergoing a G-tube placement for palliative decompression purposes as she was in end-stage colon cancer. She was rather uncomfortable for days prior to the procedure. As she woke up from the procedure, she had intense, ten out of ten, groaning pain. Her nurse, Dorene, was attentive to this. For days prior to this, our family had a difficult time getting members of our grandmother's treatment team to care for her by providing pain medication.
Dorene heard our concerns and took action. She called multiple physicians to find a provider to order morphine for our grandmother to ease her pain. In addition, she took the next step and reached out to hospice and palliative care (three times) until she confirmed action on their behalf. She also rescheduled our grandmother's hospice admit date, only one hour after we had been home.
Dorene was a light to our family in a time of darkness. Rather than attributing her moans to post-operative sedation, she took steps to make our grandmother comfortable. Furthermore, she took the extra step to arrange for follow up care within the afternoon. Dorene helped to ensure grandmother's last days were comfortable and that she was cared for. She gave hope to our family that our grandmother was cared for and was an angel to us in troubled times.
Dorene Moore is an excellent nurse, and I want to thank her publicly and inform her managerial staff of the excellent care she provides. I hope she continues to bless others with her caring heart.
