Georgetta is an extraordinary person. Georgetta has a way about her that can calm and diffuse difficult situations with her smile and soft voice. Yet, Georgetta is a fierce protector of her patients and of the staff she oversees. Georgetta will stand up for nurses and ancillary staff and stand her ground to ensure that they are supported. Georgetta is willing to swing her shifts and pull doubles to help cover shifts and help out her coworkers. This is all for the sake of what is best for our patients, our nurses and for our organization.
Recently Georgetta did a double to help out another nursing unit that was not her home department (this was her suggestion). While working that shift, there was a patient that staff could not figure out. The patient was anxious and in severe pain. Georgetta got down on her knees beside this patient and in a calm voice listened to this patient. Georgetta did not take no or second best for this patient. She dug into the patient's chart, she listened to the patient, she called physicians, and advocated for this patient. When all was said and done this patient was finally given relief from her discomfort and anxiety because, in the patient's words, "someone finally listened to me" and advocated for her needs.
Georgetta puts her heart into her job and uses every fiber of her being to advocate for our patients and for our nurses. I could not think of any better person to receive the honor of this award than someone who shows love and compassion to every patient and supports every nurse she works with so that they too can give 110% to their patients. Georgetta is truly a patient and nurse advocate and is deserving of this DAISY Award.
