I have a very long, extensive medical history that includes hundreds of hospitalizations, multiple surgeries, and many interactions with nurses. I appreciate the care I received on 4 Medical and the continuity of care. It seems I have a nurse for 2-3 shifts in a row and I like that. I like knowing the people who are taking care of me. I was scheduled to go home on Saturday. Cathy Sutherland was my nurse for the day. As soon as she entered my room, she said - 'what's wrong; you don't look so good'. I replied, I really don't feel good. Cathy listened to me and went out of my room stating she would return soon. She did return with the physician and explained to him that she felt something was going on. Cathy had been my nurse a few days before and noticed a change. Thankfully, Cathy pressed on and after some tests, it was discovered that I have pneumonia. While it's no fun being in the hospital, it's worse to go home and come right back. I am so thankful Cathy recognized my change in condition, notified the physician and was my advocate that day. I probably wouldn't have said anything to the physician and gone home only to have to return I'm sure. I have encountered many great nurses this admission but am by far most thankful that Cathy recognized my changes and acted on them.
