This weekend we had a sad scenario of a non-compliant patient who ended up losing her baby. A fetal death is always difficult to deal with for staff but this one was particularly heart breaking. It has been over 24 hours now since the delivery. Tanya was the day shift charge nurse the day of the event and the day after. She kept in touch with our unit director that day and made sure the night shift team that was coming back to work after the event would have coffee and food brought in. The day after she coordinated care for the patient and her grieving family, including a conference debrief of the event with our medical director. She showed compassion for her staff by helping them fill out the required forms. She kept track of the other service providers such as social services and security. She patiently explained the situation to the professional photographer as well. All of this was in addition to her other charge duties. She took time to document her interactions with the patient and family and spent time listening to the patient's mom. Tanya is a nurse that truly exemplifies our mission and core values. I am proud to call her my friend and co-worker!
