Bernesia was our nighttime nurse for three evenings, she was the nurse on duty for the last two evenings. After Palliative Care broke the news that he was not getting any better, Bernesia was beyond caring of both the patient and the family who chose to stay through the night. She was understanding of his wife's attempts to sleep in his bed with him, and always asked if there was anything she could do for the family members present, as well as the patient. When the patient decided to take himself off the oxygen, her patience and care in confirming with him that that was his wish, was beyond gentle. Her consideration in helping to remove the blood pressure cuff and disconnect the monitors so that we could spend time with him undisturbed, and her prompt and proactive monitoring of us throughout that night was both unobtrusive, and reassuring. We would like to commend her for making a difficult stay bearable, and thank her for her service.
