David is one of our charge nurses and does a great job on any given day, but today he really stood out. We had a patient come to the ED via EMS in Cardiac Arrest. The patient went to the Cath lab and later went up to the ICU and was in very critical condition. A little while later in the morning, a rapid response was called in the Reid Heart Center Lobby. David and another nurse responded to that call. The patient of the rapid response incident was the husband of the woman who had come into the ED in Cardiac Arrest that morning. He was very upset at the condition of his wife. He ended up having to be admitted himself but still wanted to be able to see his wife in the cath lab because she was so critical. David worked it out with the admitting physician for this patient to be able to see his wife. He called the doctor, got a tele order, and coordinated with the other units for this to happen. David went above and beyond. It made the patient feel much better. A little later in the day, the patient was still here. He was advised that his wife was not doing well and he wanted to go and visit her. David once again made arrangements for this to happen. Unfortunately, our patient was not able to do so because his condition declined. David never left this man. David really went over and above for this patient.
