I was admitted to the Distler Center for Ambulatory Surgery for a hernia repair and I was fortunate enough to have Christine Faust as my post-op nurse. I know that memory can be a bit fuzzy after surgery, but her kindness and ability to anticipate my needs broke through the post-op haze as truly memorable. She welcomed me back to consciousness, helped re-orient me, made sure I was comfortable and medically stable and then was able to judge the perfect time to begin discussing discharge instructions-not so soon that I wouldn't remember the instructions and not so late that I was impatient to get home.
She was truly attuned to what I needed and the best way to communicate with me. That not only takes skill, but also certain ability to read people which is key to providing expert nursing care. I especially appreciated her call the next day to check in on me. She was thorough in her evaluation of my post-op condition, patient with me regarding my numerous questions, reassuring about what I could expect, and in general made me feel confident that all was well. The care I received from her was superior in all respects and I am truly grateful for it. Christine exemplifies the highest standards of nursing professionalism.
