My son, on day 2 of his life, was transported by UM Survival Flight to Mott PICU. I wanted to share how amazing an experience it was for us. I went from feeling nearly hopeless to feeling swept up and in the of best hands when Survival Flight came into the room! When the 2 UM Survival Flight nurses came into his room at Sparrow, an ease came over me instantly. They took charge like nobody's business, but all the while respecting the Attending Physician on site. They intubated my son, a conservative call, but they explained to me why it needed to be done, and encouraged me to stay bedside with my son. They told me about the value of "mom" being next to my son. The other Survival Flight nurse lightly cracked jokes with my husband to lighten the mood in the room. They were the ultimate team, communicating, moving about the room flawlessly. These 2 men were the ultimate professionals, displaying the highest confidence, while still being personable and smiling all the time with us. This is exactly what a mom and dad needs in this super scary moment! Lastly, they came to see us, at my son's bedside, a week later in the PICU. They brought my son a Survival Flight teddy bear, and to my husband a pin, hat and t-shirt…that really made his day!
I want to THANK YOU for the Survival Flight leadership, customer service, and empathy for the human element in these situations, all the while putting our child's life in the best of hands. I thank God for the Survival Flight Team!
