Rebecca is an outstanding nurse who constantly goes above and beyond in caring for her patients. When I know that she is working the same shift as me, I know that I will have help and support in any situation. Not only is she a resource for information with her many years of nursing experience, but she is also phenomenal in her daily bedside care.
A specific story I would like to share is about a patient on our floor who was involved in a traumatic car accident and lost her 2-month-old infant. Rebecca has taken care of this patient every shift she has worked for the last 6 weeks. This patient is very busy and requires a lot of care both physically and emotionally. Rebecca has been there for her and helped her throughout the grieving process, showing so much love, compassion, and support to her and her family. This patient's mother is Spanish speaking and Rebecca (because she is fluent in Spanish) has been able to provide her the emotional help she hasn't always been able to get from other staff. When a funeral was held for the deceased baby in Denver, Rebecca came in on her day off to sit with the patient while she watched the service via video. She didn't want her to be alone since all her family was attending the service in Colorado. Rebecca stayed by her side for over 4 hours on her day off and never once gave it a second thought. She is a remarkable example to all her peers of how to treat a patient and ensure that all their needs are attended to with dignity. I have seen her come out of this patient's room many times holding back tears because of the empathy and compassion she has for what this patient is going through. Despite the emotional extent of the situation, she delivers skilled, comprehensive care. Her every day, meritorious actions serve as an example to our whole staff and every nurse who is caring for patients experiencing difficulties such as these.
Rebecca is an exceptional role model and I feel blessed that I get to work with her and learn from her.
