Letter written by coworker:
I was taking care of a transport patient who had been on the unit for several weeks. She was known by the staff for her great personality and positive attitude. She was the type of patient that was just happy to get to 24 weeks and was grateful for the care we gave her. Unfortunately, she started to show signs of labor, was 10 cm, and needed to have an urgent c/s. Her boyfriend was on his way, but we did not have time to wait. Liz Purcell, one of our nursery nurses, came in to help with the case.
After giving her an update on the patient, she quickly took over. She proceeded to get all my paperwork and computer work completed and still managed to perform all the responsibilities of a circulating nurse in an operating room. She did everything so I could accompany the patient, explain what was going on, and more importantly, hold her hand as her premature baby was delivered.
I have had several difficult situations in which has assisted me. She always manages to stay calm, get things organized in a timely fashion, and delegates when some of us are panicking. This nurse is a great asset to this unit and the hospital. Thanks for everything you do!
