...When a young patient made a dying wish to go home, Clara was instrumental in making this happen. She aided in working out the arrangements as well as accompanied him and his family from the hospital to his home with the ambulance crew.
This was a story that started with the tragedy of a young man being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. The story has a beautiful conclusion, however, because a dying man's wish was made to come true by a nurse who would not give up.
As the poem "Compassion" (Nouwen, 2005) that is given to our DAISY honorees says, "Compassion takes us where it hurts." As one anonymous person was quoted saying "God gave us tears to see rainbows through them." We believe this to be true, and we believe Clara is one of our many blessed nurses in this department.
ON behalf of the Emergency Department, we thank Clara for all the wonderful care she delivers to the patients in our community and to the compassion and support she providers to her co-workers.
