Amanda Obrist one of the most kind and compassionate, respectful individuals I've worked with. She's polite, courteous, always interacting professionally with patients, families and co-workers. Even on her busiest days she continues to smile. She is an advocate for her patients, articulating their needs to their health care provider. Amanda goes above and beyond for anyone lucky enough to have her as their nurse, she genuinely cares about all of her patients' well-being.
On one particular day, Amanda took care of a long-standing patient of one of our physicians. She listened to the patient's new complaint of "unusual" s/s and evaluated the need for urgency to be taken in this situation. The patient's complaints were not seen as urgent, but as Amanda remembered from her training: if they were true s/s of this particular condition, the patient would not have long before limb and life would be compromised. Amanda persisted in the patient receiving immediate review and treatment. She stayed with the patient, and kept him calm, all the time looking after his needs and the needs of her other patients as well. Amanda's persistence and good-nature care resulted in the patient being seen and diagnosed with a rare condition that could have resulted in amputation to save his life. Immediate intervention saved the patient's extremities and his life. Amanda is a very skilled and expert nurse (even though she is a new graduate). She goes above and beyond to care for patients in a way that makes it natural for her to be a St. Joe's nurse. Thanks, Amanda!!
