I am extremely honored to acknowledge Katie. She has been part of our team for over a year now, and she has been instrumental in reducing falls as our patient safety representative as well as an active member of our UPC [unit practice council]. She is always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty for all the patients on the unit as well as her co-workers. She truly exemplifies all of St. Joseph's values each and every day. Katie comes to work with a smile on her face and tries to heal with laughter, love, and dedication. She is compassionate in all that she does and has an amazing healing touch. Katie is a phenomenal asset to our orthopedic family and deserves to be recognized for all her hard work and dedication.

Recently, a patient diagnosed with breast-to-bone cancer which returned after a femur break following a 20-year remission, had all of her needs met with professional and gentle care by Katie. She went beyond listening as a nurse in a job, but tried to make the patient feel they were the most important person at that moment.

"Working with Katie even for a short time, I know she is goal orientated and strives to be the best because of her main concern, which is each of her patients. I had found a 'Call don't Fall' safety issue when I was having a bone scan. I knew I could speak with Katie about my concern with confidence. I was delighted to hear Katie was part of the hospital's Call Don't Fall' committee. Nurse Katie took action immediately by submitting the issue to the hospital. She made a very scary uncomfortable situation for me--not so scary, and I know the issue will be addressed so other patients will not fall or be scared that they might fall. The many qualities she possesses are only partly learned: only a special person cares for you like Katie does.

Katie does all this because it is part of her heart, her life, and her work--not wanting anything more than taking care of her patients. I feel I have a better outcome of my bone cancer recovery plan thanks to Katie Montreal!
