My daughter was admitted to the ER. In 18-years she had never been in the hospital or ER. She had been to express care and the ER the day before with no answers other than "viral tonsillitis." Being a nurse myself, I knew it had to be more. She had never been in this kind of pain before. On this day, her throat was so swollen she could barely swallow.
Her nurse this day was Gabby. She was amazing! She was very empathetic and caring. She smiled the whole time and really built a rapport with my daughter. She took her pain and our concerns seriously. She did whatever she could to help her relax and feel comfortable. She was careful to explain everything before she did it, and asked frequently how she was doing. She involved my daughter in her care by giving her choices such as where she wanted her penicillin shot.
Gabby not only gave tremendous care to my daughter, but she cared for me and her dad as well. She explained everything and made sure we were comfortable also. She got us something to drink and kept us updated on lab results and doctor's orders.
I know working in the ER doesn't always allow time for building a rapport with patients, but Gabby did just that with my daughter. She couldn't quit talking about how wonderful Gabby was. I think Gabby is a DAISY Nurse.
