"I was only 18 years old when I became a PCT; I knew then caring for people was in my nature," said Joanne. "I pursued my RN degree in order to give back more and help people at an even greater level. I love what I do and how I am able to impact people's lives in such a positive way"
Joanne was nominated for The DAISY Award by a colleague. The nomination reads: "I am writing this to recognize Joanne for her excellent clinical judgment, skills, and critical thinking, which helped save the life of a stem cell transplant patient under her care. The patient was ten days post stem cell transplant with a weakened immune system, which is normal after a transplant. Assessing her patient regularly, Joanne could tell that something was not right and raised her concerns to the doctor, who immediately took measures to help stabilize the patient. Her attention to the details played a huge role in the positive outcome for her patient. It touched my heart when the following day the patient's wife came up to her with tears in her eyes and gave her a giant hug of appreciation."
"As a fellow nurse, I know the nurse's role is vital to both the patient and doctor," said vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at CTCA Chicago. "With Joanne's natural instincts and willingness to become a better nurse each and every day, she has a bright outlook as a nurse and future healthcare leader."
