Kate Anderson, RN, CPC, was caring for a VA patient that was admitted for a HF exacerbation. Upon discharge, it was found the patient needed home oxygen. The patient could not get into the VA for several weeks to be seen. He had no way to get his oxygen or to pay for it. Kate relentlessly worked with the VA to try and find a solution, but could not get any help. She then worked with ICM to see if there were any discretionary funds to help the man. There were no funds available. Kate then came to me, in tears, worried that this patient would not be able to survive without his oxygen until the VA could get him in to be seen a few weeks later. She worked with management to get his home oxygen paid for, for a month until he could get to the VA. This is just one of the many ways that Kate goes above and beyond for her patients every day!
