Alan heard a beeping IV in a patient's room not assigned to him. He went in to address the beeping IV and realized the patient had deeper needs than his IV. Alan arrived at the perfect time, with the perfect response. He got eye level with the patient and assured the patient he would be ok and Alan would help him. Alan was calming and soothed the patient and soon the patient and his family felt at ease. Alan did not leave the room to get the nurse to whom the patient was assigned, he ensure the patient's and family's needs were met before he left the room.

This is only one example of the compassion and care Alan gives on a daily basis. When one of our unit's management was making regular rounds, she learned this story. The family also had a request to her: that Alan take care of them for the remainder of their stay. A wonderful compliment.
