On Friday, December 20th Christin was in charge. (Our charge usually leaves around 3:30). It was around 5pm and it was very hectic and busy. We had extra cases added on with only 5 nurses to take care of all the patients in prep, procedure & recovery. Christin stayed over to help. She showed extra care for her co-workers by staying even though she didn't have to. I felt safer and more at ease with her extra help.
During the extra time spent here she made angry patients waiting in prep feel more comfortable & decreased their impatience. She managed the chaotic environment with ease and diffused stressful situations by assisting wherever needed. During one of the last cases the doctor was extremely upset because she thought she might have caused a major complication during a colonoscopy procedure called perforation (which would then require surgery). Christin sprung into action to get the appropriate X-ray & CT scan to rule out the complication and in addition to that went the extra mile to console the doctor who was so upset about the situation.
I was so proud to work with such a compassionate & sacrificial team member and friend. I hope & aspire to be the kind of nurse Christin is everyday. She deserves to be recognized for all she does. This is just one of the many situations I have witnessed her going above the required to love patients, doctors and her fellow co-workers.
