When I came on duty, a patient that Diane was turning over to my care returned from therapy complaining of chest pain. It wasn't a new complaint for her but it was a little different than before and when she also complained of left arm pain Diane contacted doctors. Diane persisted until she got an order for labs and an EKG which showed a change in cardiac status and necessitated transfer to a higher level of care. When the patient received the news that she would be moving because she needed closer monitoring the patient grabbed Diane's arm on the way off the unit to say "Thanks for being persistent." I want to applaud Diane for her excellence in assessment skills and in her persistence in patient advocacy!
