Our community is a big part of our South County Hospital culture. We have a strong commitment from our community for being here. During the hurricane we had not only the care and safety of our patients but also of our staff. We have a phenomenal team that came together to make sure we could keep everyone safe but also be able to keep operations going. At the head of this team was a nurse who did an extraordinary job leading us and showing us that nurses do “super human work”. For her leadership and support I feel Lee Ann Quinn is a DAISY Nurse.
Lee Ann Quinn spent the better part of 4 days here at the hospital working with staff, the state, emergency workers and patients and families to insure everyone’s safety. During the entire process Lee Ann kept bringing everyone back to “the safety of the patients and the staff”. No one else would have been able to step up and do the job she did and as a nurse.
Being a hero doesn’t mean that only the nurses who have hands on direct care should be recognized. Here is a nurse who on a day to day basis takes care of our patients through her role in infection control. During an emergency she stepped out of her role of infection prevention and control, left her home and her family and was here to lead us through the hurricane. We are all very proud of what Lee Ann did as a nurse and as the recipient of our first DAISY Award.
