Donna was nominated by a patient's wife. In December, one of our volunteer's husband was admitted to the CVICU for several days. He was cared for by Donna Forster. The wife was present during much of the time and stated that Donna exemplified compassionate nursing. The patient and family found her to be an excellent educator as well, re-enforcing the purpose for the medications she was giving, the side effects, and was very consistent and did it every time so that they were sure to understand. She also educated them about the disease process and the machines that were being used. Not just once, but every time she was with them. Donna made them feel as if they could ask her anything. This patient and family found the education to be an invaluable comfort to them. They went on to say that they felt Donna deserved to be recognized for her superb nursing skills and her ability to educate.
***
Donna's management team and co-workers mention how compassionate and caring she is of her patients and families and how she often develops a real connection with them. There is a common theme when people are asked about Donna….She is a team player in the department and is always willing to offer a hand and often picks up extra time to help cover when the need arises.
