Ciara McClellan is a compassionate, attentive, flexible and dedicated team player on 11 East Doan. She has been an example of excellence for being a strong advocate for her patients and consistently going above and beyond for not only her patients but her teammates as well. Ciara was willing to take on the role of preceptor and share her knowledge and care practices with our new nurses. We are very fortunate to have her as a leader on the unit and very pleased that her patients and their family members recognize her excellent qualities as we do.
In October, Ciara took care of a patient on 11 East Doan who frequently requires hospitalization. A family member of this patient was greatly impacted by the care they received from Ciara so much so they wish to commend her. This letter exemplifies Ciara's character and her nursing practice:
"... Our son was recently a patient at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center; he is a non-alcoholic cirrhosis patient and is hospitalized frequently. Ciara cared for him during a recent stay. She immediately caught my attention as I observed her earnest caregiving, efficient documentation, encouraging words, willingness to assist a newer nurse, and superb attitude about serving others. I noticed her complete her computerized documenting in the hallways rather than at the nurses' station. When I inquired about her presence she simply stated, 'I like to be near my patients'.
Ciara was truly one of the finest I have ever witnessed at OSU. Our son was encouraged by her willingness to answer his questions, promptly follow up on any medication changes and serve as a strong communicator to the next nurse on duty."
