It was just another busy day in the ED and we all had a few assignments. I started to help triage an EMS arrival in one of Naomi's rooms. A 3-year old boy had a traumatic injury and was very tearful, scared and clinging to mom. As I'm asking mom questions, Naomi walks in to introduce herself and complete the triage. She played with the little boy as she obtained vital signs. Within a minute, she had him giggling and playing with her which relaxed mom as well. She took the time to connect with the patient and to watch this little boy go from tearful and scared to giggling and trusting in minutes was amazing. She incorporated excellent nursing care with taking the time to make a heartfelt personal connection and though I see her do things like this every day, I have never been more proud to be Naomi's teammate and co-worker.

Her ability to put children at ease in a stressful situation is one of the many reasons she is such an awesome nurse. The way she is able to form meaningful, trusting relationships with our patients also allows the parents to feel confident that they are in good hands. She treats everyone with kindness, including her ED colleagues. Naomi is being recognized with this DAISY Award for the difference she makes in our patients' lives every day!
