When leaving the hospital late one night, Jinx noticed a woman approaching the building looking distraught. She held the door for her, knowing that if she didn't, the woman would have to walk around to the ED to enter the building. Jinx asked the woman if she needed help and listened to her story. The woman, who lives in Liberty, TX, received a late-night call the night before, informing her that her husband had been in an oilfield accident in Mentone, TX. She had been traveling via small airplanes and taxis all day in search of her husband. After talking with the woman, Jinx found out that her husband was not here, but at MCH in Odessa. When Jinx heard that the taxi could not take the woman to MCH, Jinx offered to take her there herself. Jinx made sure the woman made it to her husband by calling MCH to let them know they were coming and walking her straight to the police officer who took her to her husband's room.
Jinx was nominated by a fellow nurse who believes this is a great example of the "Culture of Ownership" we are practicing at our hospital and in our community. Jinx went out of her way to show true compassion for this visitor. Jinx is recognized by her peers as someone who is very passionate about her work and goes above and beyond in anything that she does. She helps everyone, whether it has to do with her job or not. Her clinical manager says, "Jinx has the biggest heart of anyone I know!"
Because of Jinx's compassionate and caring efforts, her patients - and even distressed visitors - experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
