Mallory Bedford, has exemplified compassionate, skillful care in her patient care for the three years she has been at Children's Mercy. Mallory faces all of her interactions with families and patients with thoughtful, caring and constructive communication. We have received multiple comments from families about the care she provides including the most recent,
"Just left your hospital and the 6th floor orthopedic unit. Mallory our daytime nurse was an absolute joy. Friendly, informed, calming, positive and loving. The care was exceptional. Thank you for the caring, quality care."
And this comment that the Patient Advocate sent to us,
"Mallory is happy and positive, and takes the time to talk directly to the patient answering all of his questions. She is wearing a silly holiday headband today because it makes the patient happy."
When calling families after discharge our Follow Up Phone Call Coordinator asks if there were any exceptional cares or experiences, Mallory's name is often mentioned. As directors, on more than one occasion, when rounding on her patients and families, we have received comments on Mallory's upbeat and helpful personality. We frequently receive comments about her "going the extra mile" and how she gets down on the level and plays with the patients and our families really appreciate that. We have seen her make drinking charts, silly straws, and make a game out of getting her patients to eat/drink, and her patients really respond to that approach. Mallory takes care of the entire family not just the patient, she can often be seen grabbing things for a mom or dad, spending extra time comforting them, and she made a "parent toiletry supply box" where staff can bring stuff and give to parents when they are here in the hospital.
