Vikki has always understood that being a nurse is a privilege, and it is a privilege to spend a lifetime of work pursuing something that is as fascinating as medical care. She understands responsibility, and there is no greater responsibility than having someone put their very life in our hands. She has been a role model to the nursing profession in accepting that responsibility.
I have always felt that patients will be our best teachers. As I watched Vikki take care of so many, I was always amazed at her patience, her ability to listen to her patients, it is such a gift. She brings cheer into the rooms of those who are sick, and often enough, though not so often as she wishes, brings healing.
Vikki has helped me to learn to pray with our patients, trusting in the Lord and that He will direct our paths.
Although we have many outstanding nurses on our team at Columbus Community Hospital, I can think of no one more deserving to receive the first DAISY Award than Vikki Mihulka.
