Susan Shirley really made me think and kind of put me in my place, and there are not too many people that can do that to me. I needed to go outside and drop something off to a friend that had her grandbabies in the car. Long story short, she told me I couldn't go, that it wouldn't be wise and I would have to sign out if I wanted to go, that she was responsible for me and if I wanted to leave I could, I had to sign out. So we had a few words and I told her I was leaving. I started to get ready to leave and Susan came back and said "I really hope you don't leave, you don't look very good and you need some help so I really hope you stay and let us help you".
I sat down and that was it. I was not doing very well, dizzy, my feet were like balloons and I could not breath. I got my ass into bed and that was it. Susan didn't give up on me; she knew I wasn't doing very well and just hung in there with me. So we talked; and she just wouldn't give up. I learned a lesson; and I learned that sometimes when we are at our worst people just won't give up.
I took Sue's advice and I learned that to have someone not give up on you and still have respect for you is a Godsend. With her help I've learned more about my sickness. How to take care of myself and just don't give up. She explained things to me the way I could understand and she really cared.
Sue is one of the best nurses I've ever had or that has taken care of me.
Sue, thank you very much, you change people's lives for the better. I won't forget.
