Jessica is an extraordinary staff nurse on 8100. She develops positive interpersonal relationships with patient, families and her peers. Jessica takes the time to listen to her patients and their families. She will give her time and energy to ensure all of the patient's needs are met.
Jessica had a patient who was admitted for intracranial hemorrhage. Jessica completed her assessment on the patient and continued to follow up on the patient throughout her shift to ensure his needs were met. During one of Jessica's rounds on the patient she became concerned when she felt that his conditioned changed. The patient was complaining of a severe headache, nausea and vomiting. Jessica quickly alerted the Neuro NP. She encouraged the NP to return to the room and complete an assessment. Unfortunately, the NP didn't feel that the patient's condition was much different than his previous assessment. Jessica continued to advocate for the patient and convinced the NP to order a CT. While this transpired, Jessica continued to offer emotional support for the patient and to help decrease his anxiety. The results of the CT demonstrated that the patient had increased intracranial pressure which resulted in the patient being rushed off for a shunt to be placed and transferred to an intensive care unit. Jessica's dedication to this patient and the nursing profession ensured this patient received the care he needed. She was also able to reach out to the family to ensure they were aware of their loved one's condition.
Jessica truly encompasses relationship based care and strives to make a different in her patient's lives every day. It is my opinion that Jessica is truly a DAISY Nurse!
