Carlene Berner-Milner, BSN, RN, has been a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse at Fox Valley for 24 years. She is so deserving of this honor and we are proud that she is being recognized for her wonderful clinical skills, leadership and extraordinary compassion that she demonstrates at the bedside to patients and families each and every day. Carlene is committed to the organization and to her colleagues, and lives Children's mission and vision at all times. She sets a great example for other nurses and team members as a bedside nurse, charge nurse, preceptor, member of the Partnership Council, a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor and a coordinator for PALS and CPR training at Fox Valley. She volunteered to cross train to the Pediatric Unit, and has transferred most of her shifts for the past several months to help meet their core staffing needs. No matter where Carlene works or in what capacity, she exemplifies what nursing is all about.

Carlene was and is so kind, warm and communicative. When we first arrived at the NICU we were so overwhelmed with everything - the machines, our tiny babies, what we should or could do. Carlene answered our questions and helped us to feel like everything was going to be okay. We will always remember the great care she gave our girls - and us - during this time in our lives.
