Just recently a mother came in who lost a 20-week old baby. She was devastated, crying and the thought of not seeing her baby just broke her heart even more. In this moment Laurie laid aside being a nurse and cared for her as if she was her own. See nobody knows what it's like to lose a baby, but Laurie does. Laurie lost her son when he was 8 years old. A subject that is hard for Laurie, but when she has patients such as these come in, she can relate and lay aside being a Recovery Nurse and become their little guardian angel for a bit.
If anyone deserves this award, it is Laurie. I know if I have children and something were to happen to them, Laurie would be right there with arms wide open and a heart that overflows with love, kindness & compassion. She wouldn't be my Recovery Nurse but a friend that I need to help get me through in the time of need. That shoulder to lean on, the only person who could understand what it's like to lose a baby. She is not only a recovery nurse but a guardian angel to these.
