Diane is a very special nurse. She works very closely with the interdisciplinary clinical team to help patients with wounds, ostomies, and skin protection. She is an expert in her field, and I find myself reaching out to her for guidance on many occasions.
Not only is Diane an expert wound nurse, but she is also kind, gentle, and patient. Many of her patients are in intense pain and she remains calm, does not rush them or dismiss the patients' distress.
Diane guided me with a challenging wound patient, taking hours to help remove the dressings with minimal pain. The entire time she talked to the patient and explained the "why" of what we were doing. This was not the first time Diane provided overwhelming support to a patient. A complex care patient was having difficulties with a wound manager/ostomy. The floor nurses had trouble keeping it in place as well. Time after time, Diane came to assist the floor nurses and patient, always with her same calmness and patient demeanor.
Retreat is very lucky to have Diane on the team, supporting patients in acute care and outpatient, educating staff around her, working together to improve the quality of life of our patients.
