I had a patient present to the Emergency Room with a delayed postpartum hemorrhage. I was in need of the hemorrhage cart and hemorrhage medications that are kept at the ready on Labor and Delivery. I requested that an available nurse from Labor and Delivery please bring these supplies to the Operating Room and assist me in administering treatment. However, there was no nurse available as Labor and Delivery was quite busy.
In addition, it was the middle of the shift change. Erica saw the need for an experienced Labor and Delivery nurse to assist and stayed after her shift had ended to help me. This despite the fact that she had at least another hour of charting to do prior to being able to go home. With her help, I was able to expeditiously administer needed medications and place a Bakri Balloon. Erica made the case go efficiently, ultimately decreasing the amount of blood loss that my patient had. This is just one of the many times that I have experienced Erica's commitment to patient care. She is a team player and makes being a physician at St. Clare a better experience.
