Jennifer was my father's nurse when he arrived in the ICU. From the moment my father was admitted to the unit, Jennifer began work not only stabilizing my father, but stabilizing and comforting my entire family. The genuine compassion she showed to not only her patient, but to my mother (who was extremely distraught and confused) and me. She patiently, kindly and thoroughly answered all of our questions and made sure we were completely satisfied with the answers and with the information she was giving us before moving on to the next task or question we had. I have never been in a situation within a hospital facility in which a nurse took so much time and care in making sure the family of the patient was cared for just as much as the patient.
Jennifer was very sensitive to the controversial issue surrounding my dad's condition. She assured both my mother and me that she would do everything possible to make sure my father's after care would be addressed and that we would not have to worry or do anything out of the realm of our knowledge. She contacted several members of my dad's health care team and reported back to us with every phone call and contact she made. Jennifer allowed us to be as much a part of the decision making process as we could and gave us options and suggestions that we would have otherwise not known about.
Jennifer came in the following day (on her day off), after working with my father for 12 solid hours the previous day, simply to check in on him, my mother and me and to see if there was anything more she could be if assistance with. Jennifer's loving touch, warm compassion and overall kindness was well above and beyond the "required" amount of a typical nurse. She truly was our Trinity angel!
