My dad was admitted to CVMC. We met Murphy during the first inpatient stay and she was always so kind, gentle, and empathetic while talking to my 84-year-old dad. She found a way to connect with him and this is how this story began. Unfortunately, my dad was readmitted and subsequently had major abdominal surgery. After spending 3 days in ICU, he returned back to 2 South. As a family, we knew the team on 2 South and couldn't have been happier for him to return to the floor where everyone he worked with (RNs, LPNs, Housekeeping, etc.) befriended him, and he them!
Murphy took care of Dad while I was in town and she was amazing with my dad. She knew he struggled with moving, eating and just being kept awake so she always took care of everything while she was in the room. She minimized the amount of time she had to do the tasks and for this he was thankful.
One day Murphy recognized that Dad's stoma appliance needed to be changed and asked me if I wanted to observe her. I was nervous but agreed so my dad would begin to accept his stoma and condition. She explained each step to my dad and continued to support him through the process. She was gentle, educated us both on the process and took her time to not only complete the task but also to ensure that we understood everything about the stoma and ileostomy. Murphy demonstrates a commitment to her job and also concern and care for the patient and their family. Murphy's personality and demeanor allow her to be an amazing nurse and we are thankful for all of her care and support.
