Luella cared for a young man from Alaska with autism. She earned his trust with her kind, gentle manner and flawless clinical skills. When he was ready to discharge back to Alaska, he needed clothing, but was distressed that what we had to offer had no pockets. Luella understood how important pockets are to his ability to cope with overwhelming situations like air travel. She went to Goodwill on her own time and bought him clothing with pockets. I could give you a dozen stories about Luella caring for patients with compassion, understanding, and real appreciation for the unique needs of each individual. She deserves this DAISY Award.
