I recently had the honor of taking over a patient on crisis care case following Katie Reeves. Katie shows a Passion for Excellence in that she brings her best every day. She views her job as a calling and has the heart to serve.
During her crisis care shift, the family was having difficulty coping with the decline of their loved one, and Katie was there in a sacred moment and offered her support, compassion and at times an ear to listen. Katie helped this family work through turmoil and helped them keep the patient as the number one focus despite what else was going on. Katie helped this family start to re-build bridges that were burned down.
Katie provided the patient and family with a peaceful environment. She played music, shared personal stories and listened to how the situation made them feel. When it was time for her to leave, the family was sad and did not want to see her go. They also thanked her for everything she had done for the patient and the family. The daughter stated to Katie, "God sent you to us and for that, we are blessed."
The family talked about Katie all night and what a blessing it was to have her there during this difficult time. Katie displayed Respectful Compassion and assisted this family during a difficult time. She helped them overcome fear and taught them ways in which they could help the patient. Katie displayed Deep Interdependence and the family did not feel they could do it without her. Katie displays a Passion for Excellence in that she brings her best each day.
