Out of the 8 years I have been here I have never been so touched by another nurses' compassion.

In Shock Trauma, we see some of the worst of the worst and some of the most incredible miracles you can even imagine. With all of the highs and lows, I am thankful to say we function like a family and embrace our patients and their families like our own.

We admitted a young man on May 19th after he was in a horrible motor vehicle crash. He was a young man scheduled to graduate in a couple of weeks. His younger sister was the passenger in the car. Mom and Dad were parents you instantly related with and could feel their pain. Needless to say a grueling and sorrow filled time for everyone in trauma for the week and a half he was with us. Though we will never understand the why or the how come, his head injury was fatal and he would pass away on Wednesday, May 28th.

Mindy Noe admitted this patient and instantly connected with the family. At some point during his stay she placed her cross necklace that she always wore in his hand. His sister was not able to handle being at the bedside when he passed away. After he passed one of the nurses was looking for Mindy's cross necklace to give back to her. She couldn't find it anywhere only to realize Mindy had given the necklace to his sister. I know this act of kindness and compassion will be a gift this family will remember forever.
