There is so much that can be said about Karen, and yet, I don't think I could possibly articulate it in such a way that does her justice. From my dad's admission to the day he left, I could not have been more impressed with the quality of care Karen gave my dad. She was skilled and knowledgeable, which gave great relief knowing my dad was safe in her care. The compassion she showed knew no bounds. I could see it in her every action and hear it in her every word. She helped give my dad integrity when there was very little to be had. She lifted my dad's spirits in a time I thought it might be impossible. She was seamlessly patient and kind when my dad was confused and hard to handle. She was my dad's advocate when he needed it most. I have no question the great amount of dedication Karen has to her nursing practice. It is apparent to anyone who observes. Having Karen as my dad's nurse gave a whole new meaning to the relief that is felt when the same nurse comes back each night. From the small things to the big, I knew Karen was caring for my dad the same way she would have cared for her own family. Last but not least, her overflowing compassion was not just reserved for my dad. She took care of my family and me as if we were her own. She knew what to say and the right time to say it. She gave me comfort in a time I didn't think it could be felt. In my dad's own words, Karen is an "Academy Award winning nurse". She is a true DAISY Nurse, may her light shine through to all who can see.
