We had a patient on the 5th floor pass away. The son was flying in from out of town to see his father one last time and pay his respects. The family was on their way to the hospital and was making arrangements for the patient to be cremated the following day. I spoke with the house supervisor and she was unsure of what was to take place in this rare circumstance. We decided to send the patient from the morgue to the OR and allow the family 15-20 minutes for visiting upon their arrival.
Before the family arrived, Stacy Foust, RN and Shana McNulty, UC took the time and went down stairs to retrieve the body from the morgue and take him to OR, prepare the body for his family's last viewing, and also stayed there as a source of comfort and to clean up after the family had left. We thank them for going above and beyond for this family so they could have this time with their loved one.
