I am currently doing an internship as a senior in high school in the oncology unit. When I first got here, I was a little intimidated by Sonya Payne. After the first couple weeks, I started to warm up to Sonya and became very fond of her. She has taught me more than I can imagine about nursing and life in general. She is one of the best nurses I have ever encountered. She is always kind and compassionate to her patients and everyone around her. She goes out of her way daily to make sure her co-workers get to leave when they need to and to make sure they get a lunch. Sonya is an amazing teacher and role model to everyone around her. I look up to Sonya and will always be thankful that I got the opportunity to shadow her and learn as much as I have from her. She is the person who made me decide that I wanted to be a nurse and I hope that one day I can be half the nurse she is today.
