Nurse Artz has gone above and beyond on multiple occasions. One recent episode stands out. We had a patient on our team who could not read her diabetes education materials because she forgot her reading glasses at home. Des purchased reading glasses with her own money and provided them to the patient.
On another occasion, she made multiple important clinical suggestions about controlling nausea and vomiting, leading to important clinical improvement in a severely malnourished patient.
Des cared for a patient who had been hospitalized for greater than 40 days and became the first to notice that he was hard of hearing and coordinated getting an assistive device for him to improve communication between the patient and his care teams. She is clearly dedicated, caring, thoughtful, and a great example of exceptional nursing care.
