Daniel Perez is an incredible asset to our team on Tele 8. He is charismatic and kind, genuinely attentive, and is always willing to go the extra mile to help both patients and staff. I am honored to work beside him.
Recently, we had a Spanish speaking patient diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension on our unit. Despite utilization of our unit's resources, we were unable to completely resolve her fear. The patient was riddled with emotion as her impression of the situation was far more grave than her actual diagnosis. I asked Daniel in passing if he would mind speaking with the patient to better understand her concerns in Spanish. Without hesitation, Daniel took it upon himself to sit with this patient to educate her and her family. He consoled her and calmed her fears with such compassion that it was emotional to observe. This was not one of Daniel's assigned patients, yet he spent a significant amount of time and detailed effort with her. He utilized bilingual educational materials and thoroughly taught the patient about her diagnosis. He made sure there was complete comprehension and readily answered any and all questions. I saw the essence of what it means to be a nurse in the way he treated this patient and her family. He is a wonderful nurse.
