Monty Blue, Admin Director, and Cheryl Yeo, ICU, combined forces one night after hearing about a patient's previous 36 hours of poor care at another facility. According to the family, "he was airlifted to Saint Agnes to undergo surgery for a GI bleed. We assumed he would be admitted to the hospital. When told later that he was deemed stable' and would be released to go back home within the hour, we begged and pleaded with Monty and Cheryl to find a way for him to be admitted."
These two nurses epitomize what an extraordinary nurse is; one who demonstrates special human consideration for patients and families. They chose to advocate on behalf of the patient and family.
As the nominator reflects, "To our family, having these two nurses intervene on our behalf truly saved our brother's life. Thankfully, he remained at Saint Agnes throughout the night, receiving a higher level of care and observation. In the morning, he was transferred to Stanford for additional surgery."
