There wasn't a dry eye in Labor and Delivery when the DAISY award went to Kristin Rood, RNC-OB. Her nurse manager, Amy Sanborn, MSN, RNC, read her bio, sharing that Kristin has been a nurse at UI Hospitals and Clinics since 2004 moving to L&D in 2005. She's currently completing her BSN at Chamberlain and is certified in inpatient obstetrical nursing. It was a very special nomination, written by a patient who returned for the presentation. The patient shared:


Kristin cared enough to insist on a type of monitor that our medical team wouldn't have used otherwise. The second the monitor indicated trouble, Kristin quickly arrived in the room, asked if she could check me, felt the prolapsed cord and held the baby up off the cord while paging the OR. She continued to keep my baby alive while holding her back up off the cord on the way to the OR. There are many good nurses here and certainly excellent ones, but it takes a special person to give 100% care 100% of the time, so that in a situation like this, she truly saved our baby's life. We don't know how to thank her enough except to hope that she can be formally recognized for her incredible commitment to her profession and specialty, and the lives that she has saved and will clearly continue to save in the future.
