The nurse I wish to nominate was wonderful. I had been having a very difficult time recently, as my house had recently burned down and my family and I had been living in a hotel. I wasn't expecting to be admitted and so I was not prepared to stay in the hospital. This nurse went out of her way to comfort me. She listened and never rushed me which was exactly what I needed at the time. She made me feel like I was the only patient she was worried about, even though I knew she had several other patients and was making them feel the same way. She focused on me, made me feel like nothing mattered but me (that I was her #1 patient), and never made me wait when I called for something.
I was having pain management concerns and she always explored various options with me and made me feel like my opinion was very important. She was empathetic to my concerns. She would make me comfortable, always had a smile on her face and a cheery disposition.
My mother could not come to visit, and this nurse could sense my loneliness. She went above and beyond to make sure I knew that I was not alone and that she was there for me. She eventually got to meet my mom and children. I was so grateful to have her as my nurse. The world definitely needs more nurses like Michelle Sliwa-Glaser. She is one of the best and deserves recognition!
