Rachel went above and beyond for a patient whose medical transportation services did not follow through on picking her up after her appointment. She was waiting for 2 hours in the lobby of the CVI building and was in tears as she had no other form of transportation. Rachel was able to coordinate a ride for her with a LIFT driver.
I believe Rachel was already done with her shift and was taking some things out to her car when she noticed the lady was in distress and having difficulty with the transportation provider. Rachel approached me and the EVS associate who was cleaning in the lobby and then got through to the social worker and the charge RN in the ER to get this taken care of. Before I knew it, the social worker had the patient's ride scheduled and gave me the description of the vehicle and the time the driver was coming. The patient was so relieved, and this time had tears of gratitude for all that was done for her. The patient's ride came shortly, and she was escorted home.
I've noticed also the compassion Rachel shows to patients and staff. Making staff from registration to the EVS crew all an important part of what gets done here to serve the patients in their time of need. She treats both patients and co-workers with respect. I appreciate her can-do attitude and enjoy working with her in the emergency room.
I know she also deals with the most sensitive part of patient care, those who have been abused or sexually assaulted. I'm very grateful as Rachel is such a special and important part of our staff. Thank you, Rachel! You have a beautiful heart. Your kind work does not go unnoticed.
