There was a heart wrenching and chaotic situation at LSMC. A teen was in our care and, as the social workers were talking with the family about hospice before being discharged, he coded.
Doctors responded right away as did several other people. How impressive to see how everyone working together to try and resuscitate and stabilize the young man. The family was visibly in extreme crisis, and all the while, Jamie was checking in. The boy's mother collapsed and was admitted to the ED and while she was there her son died. It was very traumatic and emotional. Jamie had many details to manage, like the transport by the helicopter that then had to be canceled, the medical examiner's arrival, and protocol.
What was so impressive was not only how Jamie handled everything calmly and with a level head, very capable with the complexity of the situation, but that those complexities did not cause her to lose her tenderness toward the family and staff. Every time Jamie came to talk with the family or check in on them, she exuded confidence and beautiful compassion. She even checked in with me and other staff as we were assisting the family.
Jamie's compassion blended with capability is a blessing to this hospital and community. I am grateful she was present to assure everyone had what they needed that day.
Thank you.
