...Every nurse as well as all staff members from the secretaries, housekeepers, and respiratory therapists to the physicians and their teams have been kind, compassionate and sensitive to our needs and concerns. Everyone listens to our concerns and provides us with reassurance and information. We are constantly updated on my husband's condition.

As I sit quietly next to my husband's broken body and holding his hand, I can only be thankful for the many blessings God has bestowed on us thus far. He has survived being run over by a large farm tractor from his pelvis to his head. He would not have survived this far without the amazing staff at MetroHealth. I knew MetroHealth is a top rated level one trauma center, but to actually see these professionals perform their life-saving skills is remarkable! (I hope when this over I never have to see it again!). The staff continually observes, assesses and implements immediate action and then reassess the problem. Life solving measures are performed and many problems are averted by their diligence.

I am a registered nurse at EMH Healthcare in Elyria, Ohio and have worked there 38+ years. I float to all units, and while I am not a critical care nurse I am observant and aware of what is being done. The nursing care here is excellent and unsurpassed! Every person who walks in and out of the room sanitizes their hands. The many invasive vascular lines have tubing changed regularly to prevent infection. Oral care and suctioning is performed regularly to prevent ventilator acquired pneumonia. His position is changed at least every 2 hours and special attention is paid to the condition of his skin. The teamwork is heart warming! I can say from experience that sometimes it is the support of your coworkers that keeps you going and able to tolerate highly stressful days - of which this trauma unit has many. This is all truly quality nursing care to the highest degree.

My husband and his 2 brothers own and operate a 1200 acre grain and 300 cow dairy farm in Southern Lorain County. This requires many long hard work days. Farming has always been a dangerous occupation, but it is our way of life and "in his blood". The staff considers his long term needs with the goal of maintaining as much function as possible. I know MetroHealth has many resources for our future rehabilitation needs. We are so thankful he has survived and with God's grace and the MetroHealth staff, we look forward to being able to return home again.

So a DAISY award? Yes, and I would choose to plant vast beds of beautiful roses for love they radiate; rows of fragrant lavender for their calming effect; and fields of brilliantly colored tulips contrasting a sky above for the spring of hope and new life. Be proud MetroHealth - your nurses are amazing!
