Amanda Moorehead has been recognized by the daughter of a ninety year old patient as, "the nurse who stands out for her kindness, compassion and patience." She stated that she was "truly a real nurse, not just someone who works to collect a paycheck." She went above and beyond to make her mother comfortable and stated every nurse should be like Amanda.
Most recently, Amanda was commended by two members of the healthcare team for the wonderful job she did advocating for another patient and family. The patient was scheduled for a major surgical procedure the next day. The family did not have an accurate understanding of the impact the procedure would have on their mother's quality of life. Amanda suggested they speak with the Palliative Care Team which they agreed to do. She obtained an order for the palliative care consult. After talking with the Palliative Care Team, the patient declined the surgery and stated that she just wanted to join her husband who has been deceased for many years. She was moved to the hospice unit where she died peacefully the following day surrounded by her family.
These are just two of the many examples of Amanda's intuitive compassion and patient centered advocacy. She is known to be kind, considerate and hardworking. Her coworkers consider her an invaluable asset to the unit.
Given her outstanding commitment to high quality, compassion and considerate care of patients and their families, I nominate Amanda Moorehead for the DAISY Award.
